If
you have not yet seen the accompanying
video, you should do so. It will give you an
idea
of what it was like and how much fun
everyone
was having.
And 2010 will be even bigger and better!
What's the Fun-Fair?
This is an all-charity carnival where the charities/non-profits
create fun events in their booths that people pay to
participate in, where members of the charities and general
public dress up as a "One World Helping
Others" costume of their choosing, and
conpete for fun.The Fun-Fair is managed by the Rotary
Club of Swarthmore on behalf of Swarthmore Town Center,
Inc.
To kick-off the festivities, there will be a parade
down Park Avenue starting at 1:30 behind elements of
the outstanding Strath Haven marching band, color guard,
fire engines, and local and State dignitaries in convertibles
and all the Village services. Then comes the costume
parade section with all the folks who dress in "One
World Helping Others" costumes. All –
kids and adults, groups and individuals alike - who
come to the Fun-Fair in costume will want to take part.
Starting when the kick-off parade ends – about
2 pm – and continuing until 5:00, there will be
continuous entertainment on each of the three
raised sound stages around the Village. Last
year, 11 groups and individuals filled 4 hours with
marvelous music, dance and acts, while, in addition,
various street performers made merry throughout the
business district.
From start to end, the Food Court will
be serving a wide array of wonderful snacks and mouth-watering
food and (non-alcoholic) drinks. Everything from roast
pig to Chinese to excellent deli offerings to good ol’
hot dawgs to pastries and more – it means nobody
has to prepare Sunday dinner on April 18th!
Just before the 1:30 Wawa Kick-off Parade, the Lions
5K Fun-Walk & Run and the Bike
Tour will begin near the Train Station and
move through the safe, sidewalked streets and paths
of the Borough and the College campus, ending at the
Fun-Fair. For more information on the Lions
Fun-Walk & Run or the Bike Tours,

Who’s
coming?
For the last few years it was estimated that as many
as 7,000 people came to the Fun-Fair, many staying for
the full 4 hours of the event, making it the largest
event in recent memory in the Village of Swarthmore.
Over a hundred
charities and non-profits in our region will be invited
to have a booth. We have already received many enthusiastic
responses from organizations which took part last year
saying they plan to come again in 2010. Some of the
Swarthmore merchants will participate with special sale
items inside and outside their shops. Come one, come
all !
